Manny Pacquiao
was rumored to be in the lists of heroes in our country. On behalf of this, he
received famous awards that surely most Filipinos would be proud of their
identity. Added to, he brought glory and honor to our flag which was identified
in the boxing world. He fought for our
country in a professional level for one decade. He championed most of his
fights and beat Mexicans, Americans and other Asian representatives. And so, he must be an icon, a bearer of our
flag representing our country not just in boxing career, but to every simple
Filipinos who aspires a great dream.
Manuel
Marquez and Manny Pacquiao are known as forerunners in boxing field; competing
for fame and position. This mainly characterized that Filipinos and Mexicans
are the best boxers in the world. However, like other games the law is, one
should win and one should loose. They had been into fights before but producers
were eager to arrange same fights. Maybe because they were both hungry for
money, resulting like a gladiator fighting to a voracious lion. Their recent
fight was aired on T.V worldwide, live streamed on the internet and broadcasted
in every news stations, which was obviously they were considered as historical figure
in the modern history. No other person
who could do like this, who could stop people from working and glued their eyes
on their television. Even we set Prince Harry’s wedding ceremony as example;
still the viewers were not eager compared to Pacquiao Marquez fight.
The defeat
of Manny dismayed the fans and his countrymen. The celebration was handed down
to Mexicans, who waited long for the crown. In contrary, Philippines did not
celebrate Manny’s loss instead; he was bombarded with cuss words especially in
politics and religion. Many boxing analysts commented on him that politics was
a stumbling block in his career. His time was mismanaged, one is exerting
sympathy and the other is exerting for popularity. Apparently, this was just an
issue thrown to Manny that he should not submit himself into politics because
he was not credible to be a politician. Since this was just an advice, but he attested
the fact that he was present in political meeting, arraignment, debate and
forum.
Another
theory made him lost was the change of Religion. As we all know that Manny grew
up as Catholic. He was formed and raised in Catholic context, which his mom is
a devout. Truly, his faith was clanged in
Catholicism before he started his career. He prayed using rosary and following
the traditions of Catholics. Personally, I believe that this theory unable him
to reach his luck. Why. If we define the word adjustment, the act of adjusting or state of being adjusted,
simply says not recovered. Manny his side was not fully equipped to fight
because he changed religion in which he was still undergoing an adjustment. If we
count the days he spent in his new religion, it had been months since he
stayed. By this, this gave him confusion in state that ‘’ will this new
religion help me win?’’. Well if we base in sociological
perspective, engaging to a new group of people lead to culture shock. As a
student, when I was new here in Davao, it was really hard for me to cope with
new environment, to settle with group of people and to meet their demands. In relation,
Pacquiao as new member experienced culture shock because he had to
sacrifice the Catholic tradition which he was used to follow. He had to follow
the rules imposed of his new religion, to think that he was a responsible member of a new church. To narrow it down, Manny continually
adjusts; he continually discovers his new religion. He still reacts in his new environment different of his own resulting experiences don’t feel new, and start to get him down . Consequently, it gave him
anxiety and culture shock, reasons why he lost the game. Thus change of a
religion was a factor why Manny failed to give
the belt to us.
